A Very Merry Mailing

I just wanted to share this festive photo of our 2012 holiday mailing!  If you are interested in a sneak peak as to what is inside of our mailing please stop by next week!  I hope that everyone is surviving the pre-holiday rush!  I am a sucker for all things Christmas including the holiday hustle and bustle!  EBS will be closing for the holidays December 24th through January 2nd.  We are looking forward to many new and exciting changes coming January so be sure to check back with us often! 

Why not make This Holiday Season An 'Eco' One?

The holidays are officially upon us.  The ground in my part of the world is white,  I have started to hear holiday favourites being played on the radio, and on the weekend my family and I watched Home Alone!  I love the holiday season, and coming to you on behalf of an Eco friendly company I wanted to suggest  a few ways that you could  incorporate some earth friendly tips into your festivities. 

• Wrap all of your presents in an Eco Flat Box (OK this is a joke...please keep reading)
• The first and most obvious tip is to buy less - try not to get caught up in the consumer driven frenzy that we call holiday shopping
• When you do buy, try to buy smart!  Consider these helpful shopping tips...
• look for locally made gifts to help reduce the carbon footprint (think of all of the gas consumed in shipping a product from overseas)
• buy gifts that are made from recycled or repurposed materials (ahem...did you know that our Eco Flat Boxes are made from up to 97% post consumer material...)
• buy battery free gifts - over 40% of battery sales can be traced back to the holiday season
• re-gift - yes - why not!  If you will not use the object find someone who will!
• shop online...studies show that shopping online also reduces your carbon footprint (even when you include delivery into the equation)
• When making the choice between a faux tree and a real tree opt for the real tree this year.  Real trees are a renewable resource.  Before the tree is harvested it improves our air quality, trees are grown locally, and most trees are recycled into mulch to help beautify our summer gardens.
• Why not connect with nature this year?  You can start a new family tradition that celebrates the earth.  Looking for some inspiration?  Why not decorate a tree (outdoors) for the birds?  It will look festive and the birds will be thankful for it when winter food becomes scarce.  You can plant a tree as a family to offset the tree that you used for your decorated Christmas tree.  Why not simply revel in the beauty of the outdoors and go for a family hike?
• Try making your holiday cards this year.  If you were to compile all of the holiday cards sold in the US this year, the pile would fill a football field 10 stories high.  Over 300 000 trees would be harvested in the process.
• Lower the impact of your holiday lighting.  Try reducing the size of your outdoor light display, use LED lighting, and make sure to turn off the lights before turning into bed. 
• Try to eliminate some of your plastic holiday decor with natural decorations such as greenery, pine-cones, and potted plants and flowers.
• When hosting a party this year be bold and use real dishes instead of disposable.  A few more minutes in the soapy sink water means a whole lot to our earth.

What Does It Mean To Be Green?

Here at EBS we are proud to call ourselves a "green" company.  You may wonder what exactly it is that we do in order to slap ourselves with this of-the-moment "green" label.  Here is a little breakdown...

• We use a high percentage of post-consumer product in the manufacturing of our Eco Flat Box (what this means is that very few if any trees are cut down in order to create our box).
• Our Eco Flat Box is 100% recyclable.  We refuse to allow our packaging to contribute to landfill waste.
• Our Eco Flat Box is considerably lighter than a wooden crate and therefore will require and utilize less fuel to transport and ship your product where it needs to go.
• Inside EBS we go green whenever possible by choosing to send electronic versions of documents internally (in fact when we recently displayed at GlassBuild America we were armed with IPADS in lieu of printed handouts!

Is it enough?  Of course not.  As a young company we are constantly striving to come up with ingenuitive ways to grow while remaining sustainable and environmental.  While contemplating our situation I wondered what other Canadian companies are doing on the ecological forefront and after searching online I ran across an online article entitled Canada's Greenest Employers.  Some of the initiatives undertaken by these Green Employers included creating preferred green parking spaces for customer driving electric or hybrid vehicles, planting and maintaining a large organic staff garden, installing roof-top solar panels, incorporating motion-activated lighting in stores and offices.  Click on the link provided above to read more about Canada's Greenest Employers.  I would like to give kudos to the companies who are taking control of their environmental impact and striving to make a difference.  Read more here about how you can make a difference in your personal life simply by incorporating some of the suggestions provided.

The Eco Flat Box Beta Launch

This past weekend EBS hosted it's inaugural Sales, Marketing, and Training Meeting.  We were pleased to welcom a number of industry professionals with a Meet and Greet BBQ on Sunday and then kicked it into high gear on Monday with an action packed schedule. 

Monday's whirlwind agenda included a factory tour of our manufacturing partner Norampac and their associated testing facilities, as well as a tour of our warehousing and logistics partner Pro-Motion.  After that it was Glass Packing 101 as we led a hand-on exploration session that allowed all those who were interested to pack a sample sized 36" x 36" Eco Flat Box.  The afternoon closed with a deeper look into EBS and our certified Re-Seller sales program. 

The day was a success and we would like to sincerely thank all of those who travelled a great distance to spend some time with us getting up close and personel with the box.
